KAYRA 2001

Rally Rules


This is a summary of the Rally Rules in the Rally Document? Of which a copy will be given to each participating yacht.

  • - The Rally is neither a race nor a regatta and engines may be used as decided by each skipper.
  • - The Rally is open only to amateur sailing and motor yachts, but not to chartered yachts or yachts with paying guests/passengers on board.
    • NOTE: Due to the on shore arrangements which may include free hospitality and entertainment, absolutely no charter yachts are allowed to take part in the Rally.
  • - Each yacht must have a minimum crew of two at all times.

Participants are bound by: The International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea, laws and regulations of Turkey and the countries to be visited, the present Rally Rules, Committee's and/or Commodore's sailing instructions.

Each Rally-Yacht must display the following: National flag of the country of registration, a flag of the country to be visited on the main mast starboard cross tree as a courtesy flag which should be in a good condition, Rally and Sponsor's burgees, Rally number.

Each yacht must be equipped at least with:

  • - A built-in Diesel engine, a life-raft or a ready to float dinghy, a built-in 25 Watt VHF radio, a radar reflector, signal flares, all in reasonable working condition,
  • - Fenders enough in number and size to be able to moor alongside or in packs without having the chance for choosing their mooring place. The Committee and/or Commodore may check any time the Rally-yachts in respect of the above.

    As a majority of participants understand English, this will be the language during the Rally for all the communications. Private messages between yachts, not affecting the Rally, may be sent in any language.

Disclaimer: Every yacht participating in KAYRA 2001 - The Black Sea Yacht Rally is sailing under the sole responsibility of her owner/skipper and her crew. The Rally Organization Committee, Commodore, Group Leaders, Sponsors and Supporters, the Turkish Coast Guard, the management of all the marinas and clubs involved in the organization of the Rally and Port Authorities in Turkey and in countries to be visited, Coast Guards of the countries to be visited as well, any person connected with the organization of this Rally, bear no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury, death or inconvenience to any yacht, to crewmembers, to 3rd parties or other yachts. The safety of each yacht and her entire management, including insurance, remains the responsibility of her owner/skipper.

Owners/skippers and their crew, are participating in the Rally of their free will and at their own risk. Each of them is responsible for the seaworthiness and safe navigation of yacht under command. The decision whether to start, continue or retire in consideration of the meteorological conditions, present or forecast or other conditions lies entirely with the skipper of each yacht. If retiring from the Rally or delaying departure at any port, the yacht must report her action to the Group Leader or the Rally Commodore. There will be no refund of the cost sharing fees or contributions under such circumstances. If for one time only delaying departure from any port in presence of unpredictable reasons and with the assurance to join the Rally in next port the Group Leader or Commodore are free to accept the case as force majeure.

The Organization Committee reserves the right to limit the number of yachts and to decline applications in respect of set criteria. Cost sharing fees will than be rendered back.
