Aegean Rally 1999

The Aegean archipelago has always been a great temptation for Greek and foreign sailors alike. The bright sun of the Aegean, its picturesque islands full of history and the favourable wind conditions create an ideal sailing locale.

In these waters, the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club is organizing for the 36th consecutive year, the International Aegean Sailing Rally, the principal sailing event in the Eastern Mediterranean. Yachtsmen from all over the world are invited to take part in an adventure, measuring their seamanship and sailing skills against this formidable sea and each other.

Besides Athens, three beautiful Greek islands, Santorini, Kalymnos and Syros will be the stopovers of this year's regatta.

SANTORINI: The most famous Cycladic island with breath-taking landscapes, the volcano, picturesque villages, and rich night life.

KALYMNOS: The traditional island of sponge-divers well known for its Greek hospitality and beautiful beaches.

Friday 16 July	1st Race FALERON-SANTORINI, 125 NM
Sunday 18 July	Visit to traditional premises Coctail party.
Monday 19 July	Tour to the prehistoric site of Akrotiri. Beach-Volley Tournament. Prize-giving ceremony and local festivities.
Tuesday 20 July	2nd Race SANTORINI-KALYMNOS, 84 NM
Wednesday 21 July	Prize-giving ceremony and local festivities.
Thursday 22 July	3rd Race KALYMNOS-SYROS, 106 NM
Friday 23 July	Party at the Syros Nautical Club
Saturday 24 July	Tour at Ermoupoli sites. Prize-giving ceremony and local festivities.
Sunday 25 July	4th Race SYROS-VOULIAGMENI, 72 NM
Wednesday 28 July	Prize giving ceremony and big goodbye party.

And here is a map of Greece with the Rally course indicated in red colour. Every year the Rally sails around a part of the beautiful Aegean sea, Northern, middle or Southern, stopping to hospitable and picturesque Greek islands.

International participations are most welcome, HORC is keen to provide any kind of information to foreign crews. To date, we had registrations from Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Russia, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Turkey.
